We need more safe places
Teens may not be able to legally purchase beer, wine or liquor, but according to a survey conducted by the AMA, many teens get access to alcohol from adults they know:
- 1 out of 3 teens said they could easily get alcohol from their parents.
- 2 out of 5 teens said they could get alcohol from a friend’s parents.
- 1 out of 4 teens have been to a party where adults allowed underage drinking.
“Social Hosting” is the term used to describe any situation where an adult allows underage teens to drink alcohol. Several states, including Rhode Island, have laws in place aimed specifically at social hosts. Adults who provide alcohol to underage teens are facing serious consequences including: Heavy fines, jail time, probation, revoked/suspended driver’s license.
Keeping alcohol OFF the guest list
Some parents have the attitude that letting teens drink under their roof is “safe drinking”, but when it comes to teens, there is no safe drinking. Our Organization
The L.P.C. was awarded the “Drug Free Communities” Grant in 2017. Housed in the Office of National Drug Control Policy, “D.F.C.” provides the funding necessary for communities to identify and respond to local drug and alcohol use problems. The DFC program recognizes that in order to be sustainable over time it must have effective community collaboration. The L.P.C. is also a member of the Blackstone Valley Prevention Coalition. The BVPC is a regional coalition of community members that come together with a mission to develop, implement, advocate for effective community-based prevention initiatives
What We Are Acomplishing
The Lincoln Prevention Coalition aims at reducing the incidence rate of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, by youth, through continued education. With your help and involvement, we can keep our teens safer and help educate them on the dangers of substance abuse.
